Commercial & Architectural Lighting Design

“Please don’t leave it to us” might seem a strange title for a blog but it’s very appropriate for the subject of lighting design especially for retail and architectural lighting design.

Part of my yearly activities is to attend Mipim the leading real estate exhibition and conference in Cannes, France where property professionals from all over the world congregate.

Whilst at Mipim we meet with lots of well-known international architects who say the same thing;

“We know the lighting isn’t good but we are not lighting designers and our client just push lighting design into our remit of services or let the M&E Contractors take on the role”

This approach of leaving commercial or architectural lighting design to the untrained or turning your back on good lighting must be one the biggest mistakes any client can make!  They only seem to realise it once the building is completed, then we are called in to try to resolve the problems.

Unbelievably this is true for some of the world’s most prestigious architectural masterpieces, buildings & projects.

Luckily some forward-looking property developers have woken up to the fact that good lighting design is not an after thought but an essential ingredient to enhance great architecture and provide wonderful environments that provide a wow, pop or well-being factor.
