Initial creative design consultation meeting: suggesting several potential ways to deliver The Science of Happiness Exhibition according to the unique message of Swami Chinmayananda.

The exhibition design concept steered the visitors around the outer exhibit, provoked by questions and low-tech interactive designs to make people think about happiness. For example, upon entering the exhibition space, the visitor would be confronted with a no-frills mirror surrounded by famous quotes. This mirror reflected the powerful message that happiness is within you.

Our exhibition designers were asked to assist Chinmaya UK,  a charity that was planning “The Science of Happiness Exhibition & Event Day” in two weeks and had only a tiny budget. After our initial discussions, it became apparent that this UK charity urgently needed professional design assistance. Within a few days, we met them at Quaker House in London. During our design consultation, we discussed various options to deliver “The Science of Happiness Exhibition” in line with the unique message of Swami Chinmayananda.

We visited the auditorium where the exhibition would be located to get a feel for the space and what facilities already exist, for example, lighting, sound equipment, AV, etc. Once this exercise had been completed, we sat down with the client and listened to their aspirations and goals for the project. Equipped with this vital information, it allowed us to sketch up various exhibit design concepts for them to comment on and then for us to adjust where possible and appropriate. Our chosen vision directed the visitors around the outer ring of the exhibition, unfolding various questions to make people consider what “real happiness” is. This was supported by immersive, low-tech interactives before entering the inner sanctum.

Finally, you could enter the “inner sanctum,” which was positioned directly under the large skylight of the auditorium, hence its name, “the light.” On entering the space, you are confronted by a simple mirror surrounded by famous quotes. Instantly, the visitor stops and asks themselves why there is a mirror. The key message is “that happiness is within you.”

Our chosen vision guided visitors around the exhibition’s outer ring, posing numerous questions to prompt them to reflect on what “real happiness” implies. This was supported with immersive, low-tech interactives before entering the inner sanctum.

Finally, you can visit the “inner sanctum,” which was located right beneath the auditorium’s gigantic skylight, earning the name “the light.” When you enter the area, you’re welcomed by a simple mirror surrounded by renowned quotes. The visitor immediately stops and questions why there is a mirror. The primary concept is, “That happiness is within you.”
