Restaurant Interior Lighting for Babur

Information

Babur is a popular modern Indian restaurant in southeast London. This visionary gourmet Bengali restaurant is highly commended in the Michelin Guide. Moreover, Babur has accumulated an array of glowing rewards and reviews. The owner of Babur contacted our team to upgrade and enhance the restaurant’s interior lighting. Furthermore, the beautiful Indian artworks on permanent display required a suitable conservation lighting solution to minimise environmental damage to the art.

Unfortunately, these artworks had been exposed to variable humidity, high UV and light levels, and extreme heat for an extended period. Therefore, our lighting team first undertook a comprehensive lighting assessment. Based on this, we delivered a clear vision of how to improve interior lighting. In addition, this report also included a suitable conservation methodology for the artworks as well as drawing attention to the permanent displays.

“Interior lighting design that incorporates conservation on top of a beautiful and cohesive lit atmosphere.”

The goal was to deliver an interior lighting design that integrated effective, energy-efficient solutions. Consequently, we produced a beautiful and cohesively lit atmosphere. We executed a clever balance between the conversation of the art and the overall visual dining experience, making no visible changes to the facades. Furthermore, the final lighting solution is used to reduce solar gain by 65%, 99.9% of harmful UV light, and so on.

With our expertise within the museum world, we opted for museum-quality LED lamps to control the lighting of the artworks while maximising conservation. Through programmable dimmers, the restaurant can specify various scene settings to complement the restaurant’s changing environment. Additionally, you can explore photographs of the completed artwork in its full glory here: Babur portfolio details.

Furthermore, this unique and delicate artwork underwent an extensive preservation journey to ensure minimal environmental impact and maximum visual enjoyment. We will let the pictures speak for themselves. Alternatively, may we suggest you visit this hidden gem and enjoy the art on display first-hand? By the way, the food is incredibly appetising too!

We were delighted to read Babur’s latest review in the 2018 AA Restaurant Guide:

“Babur has been extending the boundaries of Indian cooking since 1985, its contemporary approach bolstered by a classy modern look featuring striking artworks, exposed brickwork, and funky lighting.”
